Cute Sustainable Swimwear: A Small Shopping Guide

With spring practically upon us and summer close behind come longer, warmer days, with more time spent outside and for me personally, lots of swimming. I adore swimming in the summer, living close to a lake, it kind of makes itself a routine, going for a daily swim. But, I have trouble finding cute swimwear and for some reason, the only swimwear I can find is like full-on sports swimwear. Or if I do find nice, pretty bathing suits, they aren’t really that good for swimming.

Personally, I am quite picky when it comes to buying swimwear because it can get very pricey and the quality isn’t always worth it. And I want something that is also sustainable, that will last me not only one season and that looks cute. Is that really so much to ask for?

So, before you give up your search and resort to scrolling endlessly through Shein only to buy something that you won’t even wear, let me introduce you to some cute swimwear brands, that will definitely make you stand out, and have you feel comfortable and looking good.

PS. Please don’t buy from Shein.

SoSo Swim

When I first saw SoSo Swim on my fyp on TikTok I immediately fell in love with their one-piece design. As someone who loves to swim lengths, I am always on the lookout for cute one-piece bathing suits, which are actually really hard to find. With lots of different styles to choose from, there is something for everyone here. I love this brand because they also have a resell section on their website, where you can buy secondhand pieces of theirs from individual sellers. Their swimwear comes in lots of beautiful colourways and is the way to go if you're looking for something more on the minimalistic side. SoSo Swim also makes sure their products are ethically produced and donates 1% of sales to Healthy Seas, an organization that cleans oceans, meaning you're not only looking cute on the beach but also supporting clean oceans!

JUNK LDN

Made in Bali, Indonesia, JUNK LDN is all about super cute swimwear from eco-friendly fabrics. The brand also follows a zero-waste policy and is ethically made and delivered with no plastic. The brand also doesn’t believe in fast fashion and is made to last - quality over quantity, which in my opinion is the best motto one can have for fashion. Totally recommend checking out their bikinis, which come in sizes S to 3XL.

BYDEE

Bydee is a super cute Australian-based brand that has amazing colours and patterns when it comes to swimwear. With so many cuts, shapes, patterns, colours and sizes, there is something for everyone here, but especially great for those looking for something bold and bright. Inspired by her obsession with swimwear and her Mediterranean roots, founder Dessy Harris wanted to create something “quietly confident, sexy and detail-driven”. The brand also regularly collaborates with different artists to create exclusive prints and only produces their collections in small quantities to avoid waste. Every package comes sustainably shipped plastic-free in recyclable and biodegradable materials! Sizes range from S to XXL.

LÉ BUNS

For anyone who loves minimalism, this is the swimsuit company for you. With elegant, simple designs and only three colour choices (no patterns), LÉ BUNS offers incredible pieces which can be worn multiple ways, so you're getting way more wear for your money. Chic, stylish and elegant are the keywords here. The female-founded company is on a mission to create timeless and quality pieces that will last you long. With a high respect for sustainability, the brand only uses natural, organic, and regenerated luxury fibres and materials. LÉ BUNS also offers a very transparent overview of their manufacturing process on their website, explaining how their pieces are made. If you’re on the hunt for a simple, classic but high-quality swimsuit, LÉ BUNS is definitely worth checking out. Swimwear sizes come from sizes 6-8 to sizes 18-20.

RAQ

Last but not least, probably one of my favourite swimwear brands is RAQ, a brand which specializes in catering for all bust sizes and offers amazing support. Struggling to find a bikini that fits them correctly, the two founders (sisters, btw) created a simple yet very supportive bikini with different cup and band sizes, just like a bra, to find a fit for everybody. Right now their bikini tops come in 66 different bra sizes! Which is insane and thier swimsuits are really nice. The brand also offers a lot of transparency in the production of swimwear, with recycled fabrics, mailers and compostable poly bags. The sizes range from Australian 8 - 20.
